Work titles[1] distinguish works such as films or books from others. Like company designations, work titles arise without any formal act through commencement of use. However, it has become customary to announce the appearance of works through a title protection notice (Titelschutzanzeige). If the actual work is published within a reasonable period of time (usually six months to a year) after this announcement, the owner of the title rights acquired through the commencement of use can take action against titles that have been used by third parties in the meantime.
